ESTAMOS EN UN BARROCO

Si ponemos atención a lo que genera la arquitectura a nivel global, pero especialmente a la arquitectura de las grandes oficinas profusamente publicadas en revistas especializadas, internet y cuanto canal de arquitectura hay, al menos podemos constatar algo que es común a todas, sobra mucha información.

Al mirar un violín, la quintaescencia del barroco, podemos apreciar que el instrumento aparte de su maravillosa construcción, tiene ciertos agregados que hacen que la información que contiene sea mayor a la necesaria, en ese caso aquella información sobrante le da al instrumento una identidad insuperable, claramente ese diseño es un acierto.

El barroco fue una tendencia que nació al amparo de las cortes, del poder imperial, de los papas, las obras barrocas son una expresión de opulencia, refinamiento y arte, pero también una manifestación de exceso, de gasto y una expresión de lo superfluo.

Lo complejo del asunto es que el barroco nace en una época en que la población estaba muy lejos de la felicidad, la revolución francesa da cuenta de ello, el barroco viene a ser una suerte de goce falso para superar el pesimismo y la impotencia. Las formas regordetas, la opulencia del mármol, la gracia de las fuentes oculta la falta de desarrollo personal, la carencia de derechos, la inhumanidad son el background del barroco

El barroco es una fuerza que lo orienta todo, lo captura todo y lo encierra todo, sus fuerzas contrarias son el minimalismo, la ligereza, la limpieza en las formas y los ambientes, el ahorro de recursos, algunos dirán la sinceridad.

La arquitectura de hoy es barroca y son barrocos los ambientes que crea, pero también está en barroco la gente que la recorre y la usa, es barroco el panorama en general. En el ambiente de las ciudades constatamos que las personas tienen [tienden?] a las modificaciones corporales, aparecen los diseños grandilocuentes y el lujo va ganando terreno, aumentan los materiales caros y el refinamiento alcanza hasta las comidas, comemos poco pero en un bello diseño y en platos con esquinas recortadas.

La tecnología una vez puramente funcional se ha ido vistiendo con ropajes de colores y formas agradables, orgánicas y superfluas, pronto vendrán los olores, en esos escenarios la arquitectura aporta lo suyo, desde hace ya unos 30 años se desplaza en un sistemático y claro camino al exceso, a la redundancia y a la escultura, hoy más parece una competencia de esculturas habitables gran parte de la arquitectura que se hace notar.

En mi visión toda esta parafernalia oculta los graves problemas que vivimos como sociedades, al igual que en el barroco dieciochesco, bajo la opulencia y gratuidad de las formas y los espacios que controla la arquitectura, la masa de personas a nivel mundial está sufriendo una serie de crisis complejas y que afectan sus vidas.

Probablemente la quintaesencia de la arquitectura barroca de hoy sea la que produce Frank Gehry, con recursos ilimitados su arquitectura da rienda suelta a lo que en el barroco es clásico, la idea de impresionar a la gran masa, y claro la obra es finalmente un espectáculo que alcanza otro de los objetivos del barroco, hinchar el orgullo de quien la encarga.

Pienso que el barroco llegó a la arquitectura y probablemente también al urbanismo y se quedará allí un buen tiempo, además modificará nuestra forma de ver las cosas, nuestro propio cerebro se hará barroco, exigirá más y más, y probablemente algún día vendrán una mentes algo más inteligentes que dirán “ahorremos, basta de excesos”.

WE ARE IN A BAROQUE PERIOD


If we pay attention to what architecture generates at a global level, but especially the widely published in specialized magazines, internet and architecture channel there is, great offices architecture, at least we can see something that is common to them all, a surplus of information.

When looking at a violin, the quintessence of baroque, we can appreciate that apart from its wonderful construction, this instrument has some additions that makes the information it contains greater than necessary, such extra information gives the instrument an insurmountable identity; clearly that design is a success/bull’s eye.

The Baroque was a trend born under the courts, the imperial power, the Popes, etc… baroque works are an expression of opulence, sophistication and art, but also a manifestation of excess spending and an expression of the superfluous.

The complexity of the matter is that the Baroque was born in a time when the population was far from happiness, the French Revolution shows this, the baroque becomes a kind of false enjoyment in order to overcome pessimism and impotence. Plump forms, the opulence of marble, the grace of fountains hides the lack of personal development, lack of rights; inhumanity was the baroque’s background.

Baroque is a force that guides everything, captures everything and holds everything, its opposing forces are minimalism, lightness, cleanliness in the forms and the environment, resources saving, some might say honesty.

Today's architecture is baroque and baroque are the environments it creates, but also the people that visits and uses it are in the baroque, landscape in general is baroque. In the environment of the cities we note that people tend to body modification, grand designs appear and luxury is gaining ground, expensive materials increase and refinement reaches up even the meals, we eat little but on beautifully designed and cornered cut dishes. Once purely functional technology has now been dressed in colored robes and pleasing shapes, organic and superfluous, odors are soon to come; in these scenarios architecture makes its own contribution, for about 30 years now, it moves in a systematic and clear way towards excess, redundancy and sculpture. Today, much of the architecture that stands out looks more like a living sculpture competition.

In my view , As I see it, all this paraphernalia conceals the grave problems that we live as societies, much like in the eighteenth-century Baroque, under the affluence and the free forms and the spaces that architecture controls, worldwide the mass of people are suffering a series of complex crises and that affect their lives.

Probably the quintessence of the actual baroque architecture might be the works of Frank Gehry ; with unlimited resources, his architecture unleashes what in the Baroque is classic, the idea to impress the great mass, and of course, the work is finally a show reaching another goal of the Baroque, to swell the pride of whom orders it.

I think the Baroque came to architecture and urbanism and will also probably stay there a for a long time, besides, it will modify/change our way of seeing things, our own brain will Baroque itself, it will demand more and more and probably someday, some smarter minds will come and will say “let’s save, enough of excesses”.
