LAS VARIABLES EN ARQUITECTURA

Introducirse como investigador en las disciplinas profesionales de cualquier área del conocimiento es introducirse en el manejo de variables, cada profesión ha desarrollado métodos, herramientas y conocimientos específicos para enfrentar la variabilidad de los fenómenos de su competencia.

Las variables son en alguna medida la representación separada, segmentada y analítica del mundo real, cada suceso fenomenológico puede ser representado por unas síntesis de carácter instrumental que llamamos variables.

Las variables representan intrínsecamente datos, pero el lenguaje en que esos datos están dispuestos implica conocimientos para comprender la información y trabajar con ellas, también implica por el sólo hecho de abordarlas, la condición de jugar con valores para cumplir premisas o resultados previstos como generalidades, se puede pensar entonces que las variables vienen a ser incógnitas cuya manipulación requiere conocimientos específicos.

Hacer arquitectura, estudiar arquitectura y someter a análisis obras existentes es a mi juicio un trabajo con variables, de esa forma la arquitectura puede comprenderse entre otras explicaciones, como la resolución inteligente de una ecuación. Resolver una problemática arquitectónica puede implicar compromiso con una enorme cantidad de variables, he ahí lo complejo que puede ser producir una buena obra, sin embargo hay que decir que la solución de algunas variables principales puede derivar en la solución de otras variables menores sin siquiera haberse detenido a pensarlas, hay en arquitectura un grupo de variables que son más importantes que otras y que competen exclusivamente al pensamiento arquitectónico, por cuanto en esa “otras”, siempre hay ayuda, manejos externos y hasta mejor experticia.

La síntesis que la arquitectura ha formulado desde el siglo XIX para proponer una respuesta a las incógnitas, o el manejos de variables y que pueda ser revisado y reflexionado es el partido general, en un partido general las variables propias de la arquitectura- digamos aquellas de su competencia - debería estar siempre resueltas.

Si profundizamos en la cantidad de aspectos sobre los cuales hay que tomar decisiones en una obra de arquitectura compleja, podríamos enfrentar un verdadero stress mental, sin embargo y dependiendo de la complejidad y tamaño de la obra, un grupo de otras disciplinas viene en nuestra ayuda, las especialidades.

En mi concepto de la arquitectura, y acudiendo a una reflexión madura de ella, en realidad hay cuatro variables formidables sobre las cuales hay plena competencia del arquitecto, estas son una variables mayores que si no fueran resueltas o definidas en la ecuación, ciertamente no habría arquitectura ni mucho menos sujeto sobre el cual seguir trabajando, se trata del grupo de variables que definen la arquitectura, que le dan sus ethos, que hacen que una obra sea diferente a otras, es decir, que la solución de un problema en arquitectura tenga variados resultados, sin duda unos mejores que otros, en esto esta involucrado el talento y quizás la genialidad del autor o grupos de trabajo, y viene a ser uno de mis puntos de apoyo para afirmar que la arquitectura no es un oficio.

Las variables que identifico como propias del pensamiento arquitectónico son el espacio arquitectónico, la morfología o la definición de las formas, la función, como una variable base y que le da sentido a la obra, la utilitas del pensamiento de Vitrubio, y el lugar, entendiendo este último como la conjunción de espacio y tiempo (la visión Hegeliana), y que queda profundamente transformado, para bien o mal por la obra de arquitectura, esta variable es también conocida como de “entorno”.

Sobre todo lo otro hay ayuda externa, y algunas variables complejas de la arquitectura y muy probablemente comprometidas con lo que podríamos señalar como propias de la hermenéutica de la arquitectura, como ocurre con la luz, vienen a quedar bajo la tutela de la concepción espacial, lo mismo los estilos que podrían ser internalizados por la variable morfológica, o aquellas variables con las cuales se aborda el tema medioambiental y de sostenibilidad, así, muchas de las incógnitas de la obra de arquitectura entran en una suerte de vórtice de definiciones una vez que las principales están resueltas.

Estimo que no hay forma de desarmar la férrea dependencia que existe entre esas cuatro incógnitas mayores, la principales variables de la arquitectura, al resolver una, al menos se está afectando fuertemente las otras, y he allí esa idea de mecano complejo que descubren los estudiantes de arquitectura al resolver sus partidos generales.

Al mirar hacia atrás sobre cuál es, o ha sido la llave maestra para resolver la ecuación, estimo que es una sola, y que requiere cierto grado de lucidez que no siempre se alcanza, se trata de la idea arquitectónica, una suerte de inspiración que sólo trabaja cuando se alcanza un dominio completo de las partes involucradas en el proyecto, es decir una suerte de definición de las mismas variables principales en la mente, un asunto que requiere mucho adiestramiento.

VARIABLES IN ARCHITECTURE

Solving an architectural problem may involve committing to a huge number of variables, here is how complex it can be to produce a good work, but I must say that the solution of some key variables can lead to the solution of other minor variables without even having stopped to think about them, there is a group of architecture variables that are more important than others and that fall exclusively to architectural thinking, because in that "other", there is always help, and even better handling external expertise.

The synthesis architecture has developed from the nineteenth century to propose an answer to the unknowns, or the handling of variables and can be serviced and the game is generally reflected in a general party variables of the architecture-say those of jurisdiction - should always be resolved.

If we delve into the many aspects which have to make decisions in a complex work of architecture, we could face a real mental stress, however, depending on the complexity and size of the work, a number of other disciplines come to our aid then the specialties appear.

In my concept of architecture and resorting to a mature reflection of it, there are actually four variables there are formidable on which the architect have full competition, these variables are greater than if they were not resolved or defined in the equation, there would certainly much less subject architecture on which further work, this is the group of variables that define the architecture, which give their ethos, that make a work to be different from others, ie the solution architecture problem has varied results, certainly some better than others, it is involved in the talent and perhaps the genius of the author or team, and comes to be one of my points of support to affirm that architecture is not only a simply occupation

The variables identified as typical of architectural thinking are the architectural space, the space, the morphology or the definition of the forms, the morphology, the function as a variable basis and gives meaning to the work, in the thought of Vitruvius the utilities, and the place, the latter understood as the conjunction of space and time (Hegelian vision), and that are profoundly changed, for better or worse by the work of architecture, this variable is also known as "ambient".

Looking back by searching a secret formula, or asking for a master key to solve the equation, I think that is one, and that requires a degree of clarity that is not always achieved, it is the architectural idea, the idea, a kind of inspiration only works when reaching a complete mastery of the parties involved in the project, this mean a kind of definition of these key variables in mind, an issue that requires much training.
